Week 2: Construction Management, Transportation & IT at KCI

Updated: Aug 4, 2020

When it comes to the environment, KCI wants to make a difference. While their work may not be splashed across the headlines, it is important to our daily lives.

Positioning Ourselves for What's Next

While education is important, the technology is evolving faster than graduates can keep up. At KCI, there are programs like their rotational engineer program that provides opportunities for recent graduates to gain exposure to and experience in a range of functional roles and assignments at KCI. They also accept 40 interns comprised of 10 freshmen, 10 sophomores, 10 juniors and 10 seniors who gain real world experience and develop professional relationships at KCI during school breaks. Combining the fundamentals with the technology and exposure to projects at KCI can transform a student's experience to an in demand career.

Opportunities

If you are looking for ways to enter the civil engineering world before you get your degree, consider these opportunities

  • Construction Inspector

  • Building Operations

  • Data Gathering and Data Analysis

  • Graphics

  • Materials Technicians

If you're interested in the future of this industry, research the following:

  • LiDAR, Drones & Photogrammetry

  • Smart Cities and Smart Transportation

  • Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality

Transportation

As our world moves to become more technically connected, transportation will look different in the future. At KCI, engineers and technicians are planning and designing engineering services that will move people and goods in smarter ways. The future of transportation and technology will require forward thinking engineers who want to make the systems more efficient and the environment better. On the transit side of transportation, both buses and trains, engineers are needed to develop technology that will aid in securing the system and people, and technology that will control for speed, accidents and safe transport. While transportation may not be the first thing you think of when you think of new technology, there are opportunities to help develop the next technology that will transform how we use our transit systems.
